Dr. sc. pharm. Silvana Petrović, full professor, graduated in 1992 (average grade 9,81/10), defended MSc thesis in 1995 and PhD thesis in 1999 at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Belgrade. She has been employed at the Department of Pharmacognosy since 1992 and was appointed to assistant professor in 1999, associate professor in 2004, and full professor in 2010. Head of the Department of Pharmacognosy from April 2025, as well as from 2007-2019.

She teaches Pharmacognosy, Phytotherapy and Analysis of herbal drugs and preparations at integrated academic studies (IAS); courses Selected chapters of Pharmacognosy, Plant isolates: preparation, characterization and potentials of use, and Valorization of ethnomedical use of plants at doctoral academic studies (DAS); Phytotherapy 1 and 2 at specialist academic studies (SAS)-Pharmacotherapy in pharmaceutical practice; Plant extracts in cosmetic products at SAS-Cosmetology.

From 2000-2022, she also lectured at the Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Medicine, University of Banja Luka (IAS: Pharmacognosy, Phytotherapy), and from 2009-2021 at the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade (DAS: Pharmacological activity of secondary plant metabolites).

Dr. Petrović mentored seven PhD theses, one MSc thesis, and over 90 graduate theses.

She completed a research stay at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Biology, Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg (Germany) in 1997. She participated in seven research projects funded by the Ministry of Science of the Republic of Serbia. Since 2023, she has been leading a bilateral project of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA), and previously, she was the leader of one and a participant in another bilateral SASA project.

She has published 98 papers in international and 24 papers in national scientific journals, 181 abstracts from international and national conferences, one chapter in international and two chapters in national thematic collections, and one monograph. Additionally, she is a co-author of one national patent. H-index: 24 (Scopus, June 2025).

A reviewer in about 30 international and national scientific journals. She was a member of the Editorial Board of international scientific journal Chemistry & Biodiversity.

Her scientific research areas include: phytochemistry, pharmacological characterization of plant isolates, as well as plant chemotaxonomy/chemophenetics. Areas of professional interest and work: pharmaceutical quality of herbal drugs and preparations, regulation of herbal medicinal products and traditional herbal medicinal products.

A member of the Pharmaceutical Association of Serbia (SFUS), the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research (GA) and the Association for Medicinal & Aromatic Plants of Southeast European Countries (AMAPSEEC).
