Svetlana Ignjatović, PhD, Specialist in Medical Biochemistry, Subspecialist in Laboratory Endocrinology and Clinical Enzymology, EuSpLM, is a Full Professor of Medical Biochemistry and Chief of Laboratory for Medical Biochemical Analysis at the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Pharmacy, and head of the laboratory at the Center for Medical Biochemistry, University Clinical Center of Serbia.

Svetlana Ignjatović graduated in 1981, earned her MSc degree in 1987 and PhD in 1997 at the University of Belgrade-Faculty of Pharmacy. She finished Healthcare Specialization in Medical Biochemistry in 1991, Subspecialization in Clinical Enzymology in 2000 and Subspecialization in Laboratory Endocrinology in 2016. She is affiliated with the University of Belgrade-Faculty of Pharmacy since 1987, first as Teaching Assistant, since 1997 as Assistant Professor, since 2003 as an Associate Professor and since 2008 as a Full Professor. She is involved in realisation of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching of Medical biochemistry. Since 1987 she has been working at the University Clinical Centre of Serbia, Center for Medical Biochemistry, first as medical biochemists, since 1992 as a Head of Department Automated Chemistry Systems Laboratory in Polyclinic, since 2010 as a Deputy Director, since 2012 as a Director, since 2013 as a Head of Department of Polyclinic Laboratory Diagnostics and since 2018 as a Head of Laboratory Clinic for Infectious and Tropical Diseases.

Her main areas of research are quality control and management, biomarkers of acute pancreatitis, thyroid diseases, chronic kidney disease and primary antiphospolipid syndrome. She is the author of 118 scientific papers with over 500 citations (h-index=13) and invited speaker at many national and international meetings and conferences, and is currently the Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Medical Biochemistry. She participated in several projects of Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia and she was the project leader (2011-2019) of project Biomarkers of organ damage and dysfunction (#175036).
