Ilija Gunjić was born on September 25, 1996 in Smederevska Palanka. He finished elementary school and high school in Belgrade. He received a commendation certificate for completing high school education in three years. He enrolled in Integrated Academic Studies in Medicine in the academic year 2015/16, and graduated on September 5, 2022 with an average grade of 8.80. In school year 2020/21 he was a member of the Organizing Committee of the 7th Global Student Conference, an international student congress based in Belgrade. During studies, he was a non-working teaching assistant in the Social Medicine subject. He attended a one-month student professional training at the Ophthalmology Department of the Ramon y Cajal University Hospital, Madrid, Spain. He is the author of 4 student scientific research papers, three of them in the field of neurology, which were presented at national and international congresses. One of the papers was published in extenso in a prominent international journal.

In October 2022, he enrolled in PhD studies at the Department of Pathobiology and Specialist Academic Studies, study program, Biological Therapy, at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Belgrade.

Since October 2022, he has been employed at the Department of Pathobiology of the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Belgrade as a Teaching Assistant in the courses Pathophysiology 1 and Pathophysiology 2.

He is fluent in English (ESOL and IELTS certificates) and speaks German.
